The Public Relations Unit of Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology wishes to draw the attention staff, members of the Institute and the general public to the increase in fraudulent calls, texts messages and unsolicited emails. The scammers behind these fraudulent calls, emails and letters pose as good Samaritans to defraud their unsuspecting victims.

A case in point was that of a scammer calling a member of the Institute to demand for money under the pretext that the Director-General was involved in accident and required immediate attention.

To this end, staff are implored to exercise restraint when they receive such requests and always confirm such claims to ascertain their authenticity.

Lately, more people are falling victim of various scams carried out via phone call, email and text messages. So to avoid being scammed, keep these tips in mind;

  • Don’t be pressured to make fast decision.
  • Take time to research any organization or group that reaches out to you directly.
  • Never provide your personal information [address, date of birth, banking information, ID numbers] to people you don’t know. Even with people you do know, do not provide this information via phone, email or text messages.
  • Don’t click on links from unsolicited emails or text message. Never send money for an emergency situation unless you can verify the emergency.
