In accordance with the Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology Act No. 12, 2003 establishing the Institute and the formalization of the registration of the Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ASLTON) with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the Association of Science Laboratory Technologists of Nigeria (ASLTON) was born. The Association would be responsible for handling the professional welfare, labour matters and issues affecting its registered members.
All former NISLT branches are to transform and function as a branch of the ASLTON, where they existed before and new branches are to be formed and facilitated by existing branches. Letters have been written to existing branches, state branches and Council members to facilitate the formation and transformation.
NISLT registered members are required to belong to the Association (ASLTON) in accordance with the provision of NISLT Act No. 12, 2003 Part 1 Section 2(d) and 3. A minimum of Ten (10) science laboratory technologists shall be qualified to form a branch of the Association in any of its Constituencies.
So far, out of 62 NISLT Branches earlier in existence, only 83 branches of ASLTON now exists and 17 ASLTON State branches have been formed.
One Hundred and fifty (150) States have ASLTON Branches, none in Kebbi, Taraba and Yobe State
Six (6) Zones Executive Committee in place i.e. (NC. SW, NW, SE, NE and SS Zones)
