Mandatory Membership Revalidation as Condition for Issuance of Annual License to Practice
2026, Mar 20

The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) has reaffirmed the Governing Council’s decision on mandatory online membership revalidation, stressing that only duly revalidated members will be eligible to receive their annual practicing license.

In a recent chat with members, the Acting Director-General/Registrar/CEO, Dr. Peter Adefisoye Oluwafisoye, FISLT, emphasized that compliance with the revalidation directive is not optional but a binding professional obligation. He recalled that the Governing Council at its 26th Meeting held on 4th October 2019 approved the commencement of the online revalidation exercise, a decision that has now been in place for over six years.

Dr. Oluwafisoye described it as an affront for any member not to have complied with the Council’s resolution despite the ample time provided. He made it clear that Management has been mandated to implement the Governing Council’s decision without fear or favour, in the overall interest of professionalism, accountability, and institutional integrity.

The revalidation process officially commenced on 21st July 2020 following approval by the Council Chairman on 23rd June 2020.
According to the Acting Director-General, the online revalidation is designed to ensure that only up-to-date members maintain their professional registration status. It also strengthens renewal requirements and enables the Institute to maintain accurate and reliable membership data for regulatory and planning purposes.
He reiterated that the revalidation exercise is free of charge and mandatory for all members. However, members must ensure their profiles are updated on the Institute’s portal to gain access to complete the revalidation process. Required documents include:
• Relevant academic certificates
• Professional certificates
• Passport photograph

Dr. Oluwafisoye further reminded members that, in accordance with Act 12 of 2003 establishing the Institute, annual dues are payable from January 1st of each year. He urged members to fulfill their financial obligations promptly, noting that payment of annual dues remains a statutory requirement tied to professional standing and licensing. Charging members to support Management’s reform agenda, he called for collective responsibility in repositioning the Institute for greater national and international relevance. He encouraged all Science Laboratory Technologists to join hands with the leadership in taking NISLT to the next level of advancement, professionalism, and regulatory excellence.

The Institute maintains that strict compliance with the revalidation directive is central to strengthening standards, enhancing credibility, and safeguarding the integrity of the Science Laboratory Technology profession in Nigeria.

Signed

Ag DG/Registrar/CEO
